Politicians, citizens and open government

Just over a month is left to go before local and provincial elections are held and already election campaigns are appearing on the internet. Today there is not a single political party or candidate who has not tried to search for (and even found) his niche in social networks, but are they taking the right route? Nicolas Vanbremeersch, the first speaker of the second day at the Conference on Digital Citizenship clearly thinks the answer is no. This successful French blogger and author of an essay on how the internet is changing politics, highlighted the mistake that European politicians make when concentrating on and trying to imitate the tactics used by the campaign that swept Barack Obama to the White House. “We do not have the same network, nor do we have as much money as them,” he said.
