Key theme

The more citizens there are connected to the world wide web and the more intense their use of technological tools, the quicker the move towards what is known as the network society, with all that this implies in relation to changes in the most basic aspects of the way in which we live our lives, organise our activities and seek to develop. Affected areas include (among others) what our cities are like, what we understand by school and learning, social relations, new business models, the relationship between citizens and those who govern and cultural development.

The #CICD is an international prospective event in which people and companies from many different fields come together to inspire one another under the common denominator of the opportunities provided by technology and networks. We challenge creative minds to explore the emerging trends that are moving us all towards the digital civilisation. Our aim is to encourage these minds to open up to new ideas and to find meaningful ways of applying them in our everyday lives and professional activities. And all this in the company of top-ranking international experts, using a wide range of attractive formats designed to foster the sharing of knowledge and expertise.

The general title of the 4th#CICD is EXPLORING THE DIGITAL CIVILISATION. The disruptive impact of technologies and networks forces us to question hitherto unshakable certainties and to develop the ability to unlearn old concepts in order to make way for new ones. In other words, we need to empty the glass, in order to refill it.

Under this general conceptual framework, this year’s event is divided into four main areas: EDUCATION 2.0, COMPETITIVENESS, GOVERNANCE/CITIZENSHIP and CULTURE, all of which are linked by the common thread of the influence of the social web. New initiatives this year include a new thematic section on culture, in which we will explore the impact of the digital world on the audiovisual and record industries, and the incorporation into the competitiveness section of two key elements linked to the opportunities offered by the future digital civilisation, namely Smart Cities and the networked car. Moreover, our parallel events will once again include the #CICD STARTUP COMPETITION, which aims to help foster entrepreneurial projects and facilitate contact between entrepreneurs and potential investors.

All this will take place during the last week of June at the Kursaal Conference Centre in Donostia-San Sebastián. The conference itself will be accompanied by a range of different leisure and networking events, along with the odd surprise or two to help ensure a plethora of opportunities for learning, enjoying and making contact with people from different industries, all inspired by the digital world.
