Ana Ormaechea
Co-founder of Tablet Army
Ana Ormaechea is the co-founder of Tablet Army, a company which specialises in digital publications for tablets and other mobile devices. Projects include tablet versions for Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar and Forbes, as well as native publications for iPad, such as BBVA Innovation Edge. The company also develops applications for mobile devices.
Ms Ormaechea has a degree in journalism from the University of Navarra. After working for 3 years at the COPE radio station, she moved to Buenos Aires where she collaborated with the publishing firm Atlántida and the television station TELEFÉ TV. Upon returning to Spain, she joined Antena 3TV, working in the New Media Department coordinating teams and setting up numerous television websites.
She later joined the publishing firm G+J, where she was appointed editor of the magazine Muy Interesante. In 2010 she embarked on a project to develop a magazine for the iPad, which eventually became the first Spanish-language magazine specially adapted to tablets.
In January 2011 she was awarded a grant by the University of Stanford (Palo Alto, California), studying for one year on its prestigious Science, Technology & Society programme.
She also founded the Spanish chapter of Hacks & Hackers, a North American meet-up which includes 30 countries and which aims to bring together developers and journalists in order to work for the future of journalism.
